It goes without saying that you need to be involved in the process. If you live locally, I am happy to meet up to discuss details, but if you live further away then we can talk via email, skype, facetime or telephone, whichever suits.
Initially I need to get a good idea of what you are looking for; portrait/landscape/ abstract etc., sizing requirements, any colour specifics, framing requirements, time scale etc. I can then give you a quote for the work, framing and delivery costs. I like to get as much information as possible about the subject matter and why it is important to you so that I can be clear about what we’re aiming for, in order to create something special.
It would be impossible for me to give even a range of prices for commissions as each piece can vary in many aspects, which affect the cost. But please do contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org, even if you are just thinking about a commission and mildly curious – there is absolutely no obligation.
Once we have agreed on the details of the painting, finishing, delivery and price, if you wish to go ahead I ask for a 50% deposit. I will confirm all details by email which serves as an agreement between us. As indicated, a commission is very much a mutual venture and if I feel unsuited to the type of painting you desire, I will be thoroughly honest with you. I don’t want to disappoint and my style might not be right for you.
Some of my work is carried out from photographs, e.g. portraits, landscapes, houses, animals etc. and the better the quality of photograph – the more detail I am able to capture. If you already have a photograph I am happy to work from that. Alternatively, if you live locally I can come and take photographs and you can choose a suitable one. Most of my portraits capture the subject in a natural form, rather than in a traditional ‘pose’ or ‘sitting’ as I find that more of the character is captured in this way.
During the painting process I provide regular updates. Also, if during the creative process, the original idea develops or may take on a different aspects or styles, I will contact you to ensure you are happy with the direction.
When the painting is finished I will send a photograph proof to ensure you are completely satisfied with the final result. Alterations can be made of course as I aim to produce something that you will love! In the unlikely event that you are not satisfied with the result, you don’t have to take the painting. This ensures that you have complete confidence in getting a piece that you love. Guaranteed satisfaction means that I will refund your deposit. All the commissioners I have worked with have been overjoyed with the final artwork.
Commissions are an important part of my creative work. It is incredibly satisfying to produce portrait of someone that a client loves dearly, be that a family member, friend or pet. Equally, painting or drawing landscapes of a special place for someone gives me a great deal of pleasure and are highly treasured pieces. I also create abstract and conceptual commissions working with the client’s initial ideas towards a final piece. It is a collaborative process and you can find more information about this below. I work in a range of media; acrylic paints, inks, pastels, charcoal and pencil. If you would some more examples of my commission work please email me email@example.com.
I am also available to undertake commissions for Commercial works of art. You may wish to have a unique piece of artwork in your office, reception or boardroom, which captures the ethos of your company. This could be a piece that incorporates your logo and tag line, a landscape, a calming abstract or minimalist art incorporating favourite quotes. Original artwork can complement your business and communicate your values to visiting customers. Please contact me to discuss your needs.
